History of Pland Stainless 

TRF logo1919
Established as Taylor Rustless Fittings on its current site in Leeds making stainless fittings for butcher’s shops.

Pland Circa 1930s1930’s
Company expanded into heavy fabrication making large fermentation brewing and cooking vessels for the canning industry.

Pland Circa 19361936

The Stainless Steel Sink Company became the UK’s 1st stainless steel sink manufacturer.

Pland Circa 1940s - Pland Living with Stainless Steel lorry1940’s

Presswork bay added and pioneered the production of stainless steel domestic sinks. Produced under ‘The Stainless Steel Sink Company’ a sub division of TRF Pland.

Catering sink 1970s1970’s

Moved into manufacturing heavy commercial sinks and accompanying stainless steel tables for schools and hotels along with a hygiene wash basin.

HTM 64 IconEnd of 1970’s

Developed 316 grade sinks for the laboratory furniture industry and became the UK’s major producer in this area.

Pland expanded its healthcare range manufacturing a full range of scrub up troughs, sink bowls, janitorial units and slop hoppers.

Pland Planet 19931993

Planet Kitchen systems integrated into the Pland range adding stainless steel work tops and colour options – became widely used by local authorities, care homes, constabulary and fire service for their kitchens.

Acquired Associated Metal – experts in major turnkey projects.
 

Steel WC 20022002

Acquired Santric – manufacturers of high quality washroom and sanitary ware products.  Began production of stainless steel sanitaryware – WC’s, urinals, washbasin ranges, wash troughs, circular wash fountains, and shower cubicles. Widely used for schools, stadiums, nightclubs, prisons and industrial facilities.

Improved design and developed by implementing state of the art 3D CAD/CAM modelling system.

Derby Hospital - Foot Washing station2009

Continued development in the healthcare market with more specific use products being delivered, for example foot wash facilities for the multi- faith areas within hospitals.

Pland joins Made in Britain campaign, a government endorsed accreditation allowing them to use the MIB Marque.

Pland invest in new machinery, a Trumpf 3 metre press brake and variable screw compressor, as part of their continual improvement programme to combine modern methods of manufacture with their traditional skill base.

Rise & Fall endoscopy sinks2017
Pland develops electronic rise and fall endoscopy sinks for the NHS to cater for various heights of user. It has since become a busy specialist product area for the business supplying healthcare establishments across the UK.

2018

Pland invest in new LED lighting across the factory and offices as an environmental drive to improve running costs and save energy.

A year of celebration as we hit our centenary. 100 years in   business on the same site in Leeds. In January we were visited by the Lord Major of Leeds and in March H
RH Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex. We also had BBC Look North visit us on two occasions to discuss Brexit and we raised over £1200 for MND research in a virtual bike ride where many staff took part.

Also saw a £1/2 million investment in the Leeds facility including a new Bystonic Fibre Laser machine to improve production efficiencies.

NIck Robinson BBC Radio 42020
Covid-19 changed business production dramatically, initially to support nationally with stainless steel body trays. We remained open throughout with socially distanced changes to working conditions. We created new handsfree basins to supply improved hand washing facilities for schools and businesses.We had visits from Radio 4 and BBC Look North to discuss manufacturing through a pandemic and we introduced a new cloud based telephone system to better facilitate virtual customer meetings.

Guillotine Machine2021

Investment in a new guillotine machine, additional space heaters for the building and new racking for storage. Investment into their first robots to assist in welding and polishing product production processes.


Pland Press Brake Machine2022

A new Elephant lifting machine to help manoeuvre large stainless steel sheets to feed their Bystronic Fiber laser machine. An additional 4m Press Brake machine, an investment of £130,000, to handle business growth.

Pland's Stainless Steel Malvern Fountains2023

The business grew exponentially with the securing of a new contract. This saw the start of an ‘investment in people’ drive for the business with five appointments in production, design, finance, sales and SHEQ (safety, health, environment & quality).

New products, including Malvern drinking fountains, new size Burgundy sink and a new Tonga Bucket sink, launched.

Pland's Stainless Steel Seam Welding Machine2024

Investment in a new Seam Welding machine to satisfy growth in sales demand. Further appointments were made, growing the workforce to 67.
