Ian Powell has been driving the Health & Safety agenda at Pland Stainless for just over a year. He certainly comes with a wealth of experience having joined the Leeds based manufacturer from the Power Generation and Chemical Industries where he was in production management and several health and safety roles. Prior to joining Pland he was at the Drax Power Site working for Suez Water Treatment.
His responsibility at Pland is for the Health & Safety on site during the manufacture of their stainless steel commercial products. It involves carrying out inspections, audits and staff training. He is also involved with writing and updating policies, procedures, risk assessments and method statements.
“The role is only part time, but it keeps me very busy.” Said Ian. “Most of the processes of working with Stainless steel to produce products, involve some element of risk if not carried out correctly. The workforce at Pland is made up of semi and skilled workers but it’s important to keep on top of all the procedures to ensure it remains a safe environment for all.”
Steve Duree, MD of Pland adds: “Ian is fulfilling a very important role at Pland Stainless. The health and safety of our employees is of paramount importance, and he spends time meticulously checking protocols to ensure we are carrying out all work as best practice.”
